What is AI?

Artificial intelligence is the ability of machines to mimic the way humans learn and reason.

This branch of computing aims to replicate cognitive processes in machines. Depending on what you are trying to emulate, there are Artificial Intelligences that think like humans and others that act like humans, because it takes into account emotion and other similar aspects such as creativity.

How does AI work?

For Artificial Intelligence to work, data is needed, so the development of this technology goes hand in hand with others such as Big Data, the Internet of Things, or 5G mobile networks.

In addition to this data, it also uses an algorithm. An algorithm is a set of instructions for a machine to set a pattern, i.e. a predefined behavior is created to handle data.

How did artificial intelligence originate?

John McCarthy coined the term “artificial intelligence” in 1955. In 1956, McCarthy and several others organized a conference called the Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence. This meeting led to the creation of machine learning, deep learning, predictive analytics, and now prescriptive analytics.

Why is artificial intelligence important?

Today, the amount of data generated by both humans and machines far exceeds the ability of humans to absorb, interpret and make complex decisions based on that data. Artificial intelligence is the foundation of all machine learning and the future of all complex decision-making processes. AI (and the logical evolution of machine learning) and deep learning are the foundation of the future for business decision-making.

Why is artificial intelligence important?

  • AI is applied in our daily lives, such as in financial services, fraud detection, retail shopping prediction, and online customer service interactions.
  • Fraud detection. The financial services industry uses artificial intelligence in two different ways.
  • Call centers use VCA to predict and respond to customer inquiries without human interaction. Speech recognition, along with simulated human dialogue, is the first point of interaction in customer service investigations.
  • When someone initiates a dialog on a web page using a chat (chatbot), the interaction is usually with a computer running a special AI system. If it reaches a point where the chatbot cannot interpret or answer questions, someone intervenes and communicates directly with the chatbot.
